Laughter

Sharing some laughs after dinner. Lucy was trying to feed Ethan her pears, macaroni, the bowl, whatever was on her plate and they just kept laughing. I took four videos but had to choose one to post, hope you like it.

Eggs-periment

Now that the weather has taken a turn for the better and our family has a, somewhat, regular schedule, I have a goal. Less TV, less video games; more outdoor play, more exploration and learning. Mike seems to be on the same page because we've been doing a lot of "experiments" lately. It started when my dad took E to a few science fairs, and he liked them. So we form our hypothesis, "what do you think will happen if..." and then we test.
Today's experiment was found on another mom's blog (and I apologize, I didn't save the link). It involved an egg and some packing materials. Will the egg break if we put it in the "ship" and throw it off the patio?

E drew his best scary face on the egg, cause it's a bad guy
We packed it up in the ship
Attached a parachute (that didn't work) and threw it
And threw it, and threw it, and threw it, then we tossed it back and forth

The egg would not break!!! He seemed indestructible! Ethan was all ready to go turn him into a good guy, when...

The experiment took a turn for the worse. Without my knowledge the question turned to "will the egg break if I throw it at my Captain America shield." Well, the egg broke, and...
The egg had turned into E's best bud and he had a hard time. So, we made another egg. He swore he was going to wait to show it to Mike, but the next thing I knew, that one was broken too and...

It was worse then the first time. After that, he decorated a rock. Well, at least we learned how fragile an egg is. And now he's excited to decorate some eggs for Easter.

Trouble is my Middle Name

I'm starting to think that my children are a bit different from each other, and are starting to remind me of my sister and myself as kids/teenagers. Ethan thrives on rules that are enforced and schedules that are (mostly) followed. Lucy, well she's, hmm what's the word...spirited, strong willed, independent, a handful (more like two handfuls), she's trouble. Can you guess which reflects my sister and which is me? Another piece of evidence for my theory, whenever I tell my parents the newest Lucy story, my dad snickers and says "who does that remind you of?" Who, me??

She thinks she's so funny! Well, she is pretty funny and let's face it, as a parent, if you aren't laughing you turn to frustration and then you're just miserable to be around. So, back to Lucy. She is very mobile and gets into everything! My sis-in-law recently asked me if I've had to start telling her "no", she has even started repeating it "nananana". She learned how to go up the stairs (no idea how to teach her to go back down), she starts going up them, waits till I'm right behind her, laughs and goes faster. I can't decide if she thinks I'm chasing her, if she wants me to chase her, or if she's just happy that I'm watching her. And she's fearless! She will sit down half way up the stairs and, if I wasn't behind her, just tumble back down. I can already tell she wants to get Ethan into trouble, when she is on one of her missions for mischief, she waits, looking at him in a way that says "are you coming?"
As I started writing this earlier tonight, she sat peacefully with her Dad, watching them play Trouble, as if to disprove me. I am so glad to have children that have character and personality, they make me laugh, bring so much joy and energy to this house and they make me appreciate bedtime more then ever!

Spring Weekend

Before we get into the details of spring and how lovely it is to be able to get the kids outside, LUCY TOOK HER FIRST STEPS!!!!!! Yesterday afternoon, she was standing next to the couch, turned to Ethan and me and took two very purposeful steps. She, as well as E and I, was very proud of herself. This morning she got up to 4 steps on her own!!
Now back to spring and outdoors and pictures (I know that's why you're here)
The first day of spring was not a remarkable day, other then E was the "leader" at school (that means he gets to bring the snack and show and tell for the day). The first weekend of spring has been sensational. Yesterday it was gorgeous outside!

Lucy loves to be outside and would gladly stay there all day. Of course I'm freaked out she'll get a sun burn, even with sunscreen. But, like her mama, she is very fair and has not had a lot of exposure to the harsh Colorado sunlight.

We had a picnic, which you can see Milo finishing up the sandwiches in the background.
Lucy showed us her impression of Daddy chewing on a toothpick. She loves to chew grass, although more times then not this results in me giving her a finger swipe of the mouth to get it out before she gags, ahh motherhood it brings out all the things we swore we'd never do.

Then we had a toy car wash. One bucket of suds, one bucket of clear water and Ethan's toys cars. Never underestimate the entertainment factor of a bucket of water. They both played with it for at least 1/2 an hour (in this house, that is a LONG time)

Then we moved back to the front yard, where we waited for New Mama (Mike's mom), and where the shade had started to come in. Although, would Lucy stay in the shade? I think we all know the answer to that one.
 Alien shadow
Nope, she crawled all the way across the driveway and into the dirt/mulch. Guess she's not afraid of getting dirty, good thing I don't mind either.

Date Night

Had a fantastic date yesterday. Ethan, Grandma and I went and saw The Lorax, Tree-D (3D). It was so great to spend some time with him, without having half my brain watching his sister.

The movie was really good, with a great message. The downside was, he didn't like the 3d glasses. I think I should've gotten him the adult size rather then the kids. But, he did like the popcorn, lots and lots of popcorn

There was a photo booth outside the arcade, but it takes $3!! So, we took our own pictures.

Springtime Yellow

We have Spring fever! The weather took a warm turn and we are loving it! Although, between the kids getting sick every other day, we have not been outside too much.
Lucy is such a picky eater. The other day I was trying to feed her and she spotted a bright yellow lemon on the counter. She wouldn't take another bite of her baby food until I gave her the lemon. She didn't try to eat it, she just wanted to have it.

She loves to stand at the back door and watch the world. Unless people are out there, then she needs to be in the thick of things. My social butterfly.
There's just a little bit of love in our house

"Rawr" Is How the Lion Says "I Love You"

Another way the eldest of our society is similar to the youngest, they both use walkers :)
Our guess is that she'll take her first steps before Mike's birthday on the 31st of this month
